I have a sony H20 camera, can I shoot infrared photos ? if not, is there a way to make photos look like if having the infrared photography effect ? (maybe a photoshop plugin or technique) if there is a filter for the sony H20, can you tell me about it please ?

1 What is currently the best option for shooting infrared photography?
I currently have an olympus pen (e-pl1), but am not about to bust out the hot mirror. So are there any moderately priced digital cameras out there that I could just slap an r72 filter on? Or would I be better off shooting ir film? I'm looking for the best option with the best price. It would just be for the occasional trip to the haunted cemetery, that's all.

You can (hopefully) fins an IR filter that screws on the front of the lens. Your filter size is a circle with a line through it on the front of the lens. Likely 58mm or 55mm, something like that. But these are expensive and put that camera on a tripod, press the button and wait for maybe a half hour to take one picture (long exposure/slow shutter speed). It's not a very fun way to go.
The second option is to have the camera converted permanent to infrared. But it's - - - Permanent, costs $400 and they only do it Canon and Nikon DSLRs
So I don't know what to tell you. You're only choice it to shell out$70 for a filter and deal with the crazy long exposures.

1 Infrared photography with digital slr and Hoya r 72?
want to take infrared photographs but I don't think the olympus e-300 is convertable. I bought the hoya r72 off ebay and wondering if anyone else has used this filter for IR photography with a digital camera and what successes they have had and what settings had to be modified. excellent answers so far. I'm also going to be shooting mostly tripod held shots with like say f16 to help with the focusing issues. I've read that the olympus e-300 does produce fair ir with the proper filter as the hot mirror isn't as strong as some brands.
Pick up a TV remote and point it at your camera with a button pushed. Then take a picture. If the light shows, then your camera can take infrared pictures. You won't get as much infrared as you would with a converted camera, but I got some decent IR shots from my Nikon D70 and a Cokin IR filter. Definately use a tripod, as it is a very dark filter. Try taking the color out of the shot for a B&W IR picture, or tweak the color for cool color IR effects.

1 I want to buy a DSLR and I have a few questions?
I've been shooting all my life but in films and I've decided to made the switch to digital for fun.
I was wondering, can you do macros, infrared, macros with a DSLR? I don't want a camera with already made settings like beach, indoor, outdoor. I know photography enough to do that on my own. What's a good camera to start? I have a budget of about 500$ and I'm looking for something with a lot of ISO choices.

All the other answers addressed your concerns except for the infrared. No, a DSLR cannot do infrared without being modified to do it. You can buy filters and do Photoshop tricks to try to LOOK like true infrared, but to me, that all looks exactly like what it is.... fake. The camera will have to be modified to shoot true infrared, but the problem is, that is then all it can shoot. Most people who want to do true infrared with a DSLR will have an older model camera modified rather than "ruining" a new camera.
