1 What is a good free photo editor I can download?
I don't need anything super fancy, but some open-source/freeware would be nice. I need to edit the coloring, and other effects, along with size. The digital camera I use is a Canon. My cousin gave me this camera but no software came with it. Thanks.
paint.net is good, and photoshop is good. Search for paint.net on google, and search for photoshop on http://www.thepiratebay.org.

PhotoEditorX - Read This Before Buying Any Digital Photo Editing Software
When something new first hits the market naturally, it creates a lot of interest especially if it is dynamic in its accomplishments. Then in time, several forms of the same thing show up on the market. This is what happens with any type of productive software. This certainly was the case with the Photo Editing Software.
This is such a popular item because for the most part it is user friendly. Particularly if one takes the time to learn how to use it. There is great satisfaction in having excellent quality photos that this type of software allows. To begin with there are several free photo editing software available on the internet. For the most part, they are basic in their functions. They are a great learning tool and a wonderful introduction as to what one really can do with their photos. Once these basic programs have been mastered, there is a desire for more. This leads one to the place where they are ready to purchase a good software package.
Even though you have pretty much mastered the basics, you still want an advanced photo editing software that is user friendly. It should come with good support material by way of manuals, or online help and tutorials.
Sometime downloading new programs can be a bit frustrating, but if you buy software that has a built in "wizard" then normally it is a very easy process to download your program as the wizard steps you through it.
Once you have mastered editing your photos there is going to be a couple of things that you want to do with them. You may want to export them or import and this means your software must provide you with these capabilities. It means though that the software has to put the pictures into formats so they can be used in other programs. You do not need a massive photo-editing program that has tons of formats; you need the basics and most common ones. These are PDG, TIF, PICT,JPG,GIF,EPS, and PDF for example. These should be plenty.
Naturally, you are going to want your editing software to do your basics. You do not want to have to use two programs, one for basics and one for advanced for example. When you get into the advanced features, you want to be able to do special things like add effects to your photos, cut and paste and add text.
Do not fall into the trap of thinking that when it comes to software programs for digital editing that if you have seen one you have seen them all. Be sure to read the package carefully before purchasing. While most of these software are reasonably priced some of them can be quite expensive. They may be worth the money but not if you feel, you will not use half of the features they are offering. You need to have a good idea of what you want to do with your photos and find software that will easily allow you to do this.

I need to tweak just a couple of digital photos I took for a project I'm working on. All I have to do is some cropping, turning color to B&W, adjust the total image size, and rotating by degrees (i.e. where I can choose how many degrees).
What program would work? I downloaded the free GIMP software but it turned out to be totally useless. Thanks!
I think for basic photo editing the GIMP is overkill and overrated. Try Picasa - free from Google http://picasa.google.com/

1 completely free digital recording software downloads?
hi...i just got a digital audio recorder for christmas and would like to clean up some of the recordings i've made and would like to find a free download of some kind of digital recording software for editing and processing. i found some incredible evp's on some of my recordings and want to refine the audio to hear them without the background/ambient noises.
thanks for your help!
It's impossible filter out all the background and ambient noise even with the most sophisticated program. It becomes a part of the overall audio. It is possible to reduce the affect it has but how well depends on it's frequency content. As a free program I would suggest Audacity. It has a noise removal function but it relies on the recorded content having at least a few seconds of just the noise you want to remove. You select this, get the noise profile and then remove it. Depending on the type of noise it might, again might, be effective. If that is not successful use of the graphic equalizer might be the only option. If some of the noise is low frequency hum this range of frequencies can be reduced. The range of the content you want to hear can also be boosted. One of the most difficult problems to overcome while recording is the ambient noise. Type and quality of the microphone, it's position in relation to the source and also the nature of the ambient noise have to be considered. You've only had the recorder since christmas so you're still learning. This is at least one area where making mistakes is the best teacher. Keep a mental note of the recording circumstances and take that into consideration when doing your next recording. Through experience and experimentation you'll learn how to get better recordings and reduce the effect of ambient noise. The best recordings rely on recording technique rather than trying to fix errors later.
