How do I change careers - to get into online Graphic Design from Marketing?

I'm 25 - I've did art and photography up until age 18. I'd now like to move into Graphic Design (mainly online - but like to know some print skills too.)

I'm thinking of taking a year out to do a course in London - can anyone give me any tips or recommend a course? I thought that this one looked pretty good:
http://www.lcc.arts.ac.uk/courses/graphic_design/diploma_digital_design.htm

I'm open to all suggestions - really appreciate your help with this!

hi darling, here are the things you need to take into consideration:
1. design is physically consuming, it will hurt your neck and shoulder terribly in a long run, and you may risk of long term disability
2. designer are not paid very well, you will need to expect £18k - £20k as a BA graphic design graduate, and after 4 years in the industry, if you are lucky, you'll get paid around £35k.
3. after become a senior designer, lots of people wants to move away from design to product manager, project manager, design manager for the above 2 reasons, so you may want to reconsider this change
4. think carefully whether you want to do a creative job, or you want to do a visually creative job, sometimes maybe you want to be a copywriter - they are extremely creative people and contribute an awful lot to creative ideas, but you may think the only creative job is art director.
5. also think about who do you want to work for, what kind of work would interest you, and find out what is the salary like for this kind of job and then see if you still wants to do it
6. the course you picked sounds really good, and it fits in with your situation perfectly, but i wouldn't quite your current job, ask them that you want to work 3 days a week, or take a sabbatical year. don't give up your current job for this course.

Perth photography

The word "wedding" combines all the main good feelings that a person has for another. This kind of agreement does represent an enormous hard work in order to make it an unforgettable ceremony. Things like wedding rings, setting, guests, catering, and honeymoon, are certainly a big deal when it comes to set up a wedding as a whole. From all the prior arrangements of a wedding, one of the most important things to do is to get the services of a professional photographer. Wedding photography is, as it is important to capture this beautiful moment, a service that has to be consciously chosen. In these times, wedding photography goes beyond than using a digital camera to take as many photos as possible. Conversely, professional photography not only considers the guests' dresses and the decoration, but it also captures the spirit of your dream wedding day. This is quite important for couples since they can keep a photo album that best portrays this memorable day. From this point of view, it is necessary to get the services of a professional photographer that clearly understands the requirements of clients. It is pointed out, for example, that all good photos rely on the experience of the photographer rather than the camera itself. In other words, if you want your wedding ceremony run naturally without any disruption, a photographer that knows how to move around the place and smoothly take photos is worth considering in this case. Of course, you may wonder where to get this kind of photographer, in this case, there are some good suggestions in order to find a professional wedding photographer. Notice that a good photographer always has a portfolio to show the best of its work. For that reason, you can check on the internet and search for online photographers around your area. This way, you can check their style, personality, experience, packages, and prices. However, you have to rely mainly on their style and experience rather than rates. This is one of the main suggestions given the fact that selecting a photographer just by the low prices is not always a smart choice. In this respect, Perth Wedding Photographers offer you a wide portfolio online where you can find the kind of style you want in your own ceremony. Because of the different events and ceremonies that professional photographers have to attend, it is necessary to get direct contact with as early as possible (at least 2 weeks before the wedding). Blaque Studios gives you all the information about photography packages and prices. Just to begin, you can start telling them about the wedding location and other characteristics like duration, lighting, number of guests, and decoration. Perth Wedding Photographers always have special services regardless if you depend on a budget. Finally, right after you agreed special packages and prices, it is necessary to set a special time to take the main wedding photos. Because people will get tired of smiling and posing any time that a photographer comes around, you have to establish at what time the photographer is going to take the most important photos. This time refers to all wedding photos to be taken including the family, main friends, and special guests. So far, Perth Wedding Photography is the best service you can get in order to get astonishing wedding photos for lifetime.

Photography Course Online - Putting The WOW Factor Into Your Wildlife Shots!

Where do you begin if you want to take memorable wildlife shots? Capturing nature's creatures in their habitats must surely be something best left to the professionals? How wrong can you be? A little application and some time spent following a reliable photography course online can soon equip you with the tools and skills required to successfully record the best the wildlife world has to offer. And whilst using a decent SLR gives you an advantage, most modern day digital cameras are, almost surprisingly, more than suitable.

One of the key traits of a true wildlife photographer is patience. Be prepared for a long wait to capture the image you have in your mind's eye. Most wild animals don't work to our time schedule, but their own. Therefore, preparation always helps. If you plan to capture a particular creature, for example, invest time to research when and where it is likely to appear. If necessary, make two or three trips before your planned shoot to experiment. You may be fortunate enough to get the shot you wanted straight away. However, be prepared for a long wait, taking along some basic supplies to help keep your concentration high.

To successfully shoot an animal in the wild, you should make sure their eyes are totally in focus. Whatever else is going on in the photo, this allows the viewer to identify with the subject. If you compare similar shots, one out and one in focus, you will easily see how much stronger a shot taken with eyes in focus is. Whilst we may not be able to talk to the animals, eyes in focus creates a strong connection that almost allows the viewer to enter the animal's world, even if just momentarily. A photography course online will mention this point as a basic, but essential, tip.

Whilst capturing nature's animals in the wild is the ideal, this is not always a possibility for many people. So could a trip to the zoo meet your requirements? The short answer is yes, but you need to be creative to make this situation work well. I would suggest that you do not try to fit this project in with a family trip to the zoo. Naturally, your companions will want to see as much as they can during the visit, and this situation does not lend itself to capturing great moments.

The best way to approach a zoo shoot is to make the trip solo, and before you go, properly research want animals the zoo has, and what you want to capture. Concentrate on no more than two or three types of animals during the day, and ensure that their surroundings enable plenty of views where they can look natural, or the background can be easily hidden. At the end of the day, you should aim to make the subject appear as if they are in natural surroundings, even if you know this not to be the case. It is a secret that the viewer does not need to be aware of.

These are just a few ideas to help make taking wildlife shots easier, and reference to a reputable photography course online would, of course, provide detailed guidance to some of the more technical aspects that would further assist you.

Wedding Photography Poses - They Don't Have To Be A Mystery

One of the hardest things on the big day is the correct wedding photography poses to use. There will be a lot going on and a lot to think about, so to get everyone into place at the right time can be hard work. Often guests are shy and unwilling to be in the photographs. The more confident and assertive you are, (but be polite) the more at ease the subjects will be and the better the photographs will be.

So how do you get the wedding photography poses right? The following guidelines should help:-

The Head, Shoulders and Body.
Most professional photographers make sure their subjects are turned at an angle to the camera. This creates a more flattering and dynamic image.

Head Tilt.
Tilting the subjects head slightly creates a diagonal line from one eye to the other. It's traditional that the bride's eyes should be tilted towards her shoulder closest to the camera and the grooms towards the furthest shoulder away from the camera.

Chin Height.
Make sure the subjects chin height is not too high or too low; too high can create an impression of haughtiness and too low can give the impression of low self-esteem.

Hands.
The hand of the subject(s) should be presented to the camera side on, as opposed to the palm or back of the hand towards the camera, as this gives a more natural, flowing line. Also, ensure the subjects fingers are slightly apart or it can make the hands look rather unflattering. The wrists should be slightly bent to give a more relaxed feel.

Feet.
Make sure the feet of your subject(s) are not pointing directly towards the camera, or it will make them look short and wide. When the subject is standing, they should avoid having their weight evenly distributed to both feet. With one foot slightly in front of the other, their weight should be mostly on the back foot and the knee of the front leg slightly bent. This will make the subject look more relaxed.

Full-Length and Three-Quarter Poses.
Ensure that the bottom of the frame is at mid-thigh or mid-calf. If the composition of the frame cuts the body at the knee or other joint, it makes for a rather unsettling image. If possible, give them something to do with their hands/arms to prevent them hanging loosely by their sides. For example, a couple should have their arms around each other or men can perhaps lean on one knee.

For seated guests, a crossed legged pose can be effective. A more flattering view will be achieved if you get the subject to leave space between their legs and the chair. Full length wedding photography poses should follow similar rules as for the three-quarter shot.

Group Portraits.
Group portraits follow similar rules as above. For the Bride and Groom (or other couples), turn the couple towards each other. You can get them into a stance that is similar to a dance hold for ballroom dancing. The arms furthest away from the camera can be around each other and the front hands holding each other's hand. These can be raised, or standing in the same position, get the couple to let go of each other's hands and let them drop to the side, but the furthest arms still around each other. Don't forget the head tilt as explained above.

For larger groups, if the couple are included, start with them in the centre in the dance hold and then distribute the others evenly to each side. Turn each of the group inwards towards the couple. As well as flattering the people in the group, this also helps to condense the group as they will be able to stand closer together slightly side on.

Conclusion.
Professional photographers consider all these factors seamlessly and it would appear to the observer that all these wedding photography poses come fairly naturally, but for the amateur wedding photographer, this will be much harder, as there is so much to think about, so the details of the poses will need a concerted effort to get right. However, this one wedding photography tip can make a huge difference to the final set of photographs.

Good DIGITAL SLR camera, can anyone recommend?

Iam thinking of buying a digital SLR camera and I need a recommendation. Fuji, Nikon, Olympus, Cannon? It's so very confusing.
Something that is not too expensive. I don't mind spending up to 3000 if it's a really good one.
Iam looking at doing a photography course, in the future...and need to have my own Digital SLR camera.
Thanks heaps!

canon xsi!! you can get it for around $560 now. I do agree with thte above poster, but not everyone has somuch money!! Get the canon xsi and when you become more comfortable then you can get the better lenses, and by that point you will know what kind of lens to invest in anyway.

Hiring Wedding Photographer Vs Getting a Friend to Photograph Your Wedding

Wedding photography is undoubtedly one of the major elements of a wedding since it is the only factor that lasts even after a wedding apart from your wedding vows, of course. One just cannot take wedding photography for granted because it is this essential element of a wedding that can make or break your day. For instance, even if there were some problems or unseen issues with the wedding arrangements on the day of the wedding it would be easily forgotten but when a wedding photographer shoots you at best angles and at best moments at the right time the wedding becomes a happy memory as opposed to poorly taken pictures that would never help you relive the precious moments in the same way again.

Hiring Wedding Photographers Glasgow can be a daunting task if you are new to this or this is the first wedding you are organizing. Of course you could catch hold of good wedding Photographers Glasgow from word of mouth but what if there is someone much better than this person. So in order to gain complete satisfaction that you are hiring nothing but one of the best wedding photographers Glasgow you need to invest some time on researching multiple wedding photographer profiles online, since many big and small businesses of all kinds are certainly registered online.

On the contrary, hiring one of the best wedding photographers Glasgow can get a bit expensive, especially if the photographer has high expertise in this field and a fair amount of experience in hand that adds on to his credit hence giving him a reason to charge high. With the financial limitations and cutting down in expenses of most average to high earning families, one needs to give a second thought on the expenditure incurred on wedding photography that could turn to be a costly affair. Although not most people would like to take risks with an event so special in their lives by not hiring professional wedding photographers, some do go ahead and take their chances by asking a member of the family or a close friend to click wedding photographs.

With the advent of digital photographic techniques and with the high ranges in megapixel SLR cameras and exceptional zoom lens and other various in-built special effects made available, an average man can surprise himself with some of his photographic abilities. Also, an advantage of having a member of the family or friend taking your wedding pictures would make you even more comfortable while posing for the shots. The known photographer has a higher tendency of bringing instant cheerfulness in you rather than one of the merely known professional wedding photographers Glasgow. But make sure that you can completely rely on your friend to produce quality photos that are also up to the mark and has the trendy touch to it. If you are not too sure, it is better to look for professional wedding photographers Glasgow who may also offer affordable prices that would not be such a bad deal after all. So go ahead and get the devoted moments of your marital and eternal union captured in pictures by just the right person for the job.

Creativity & Quality in Photography

Photography, as a business resource, is now captivating slightly. Beside of so many wide-opened opportunities, it moves forward along with the equipments becoming more affordable. Compared to the era when digital camera has not existed, nowadays many hobbyists become businesspersons.

Many of them can even afford their lives from their businesses. Meanwhile, internet has been supportive in the means of promotion. When there are many who are now being involved in such activity, competitiveness becomes the consequences. This phenomenon is considered natural in open markets, and at the same time, quality is major due to attracting customers.

In photography business, not only services that need consistency, but also the products; namely photos. To keep up with the competition, competitive pricings obviously take place. What You Pay Is What You Get Business fields are fairly various in photography, such as fashion, advertising, still life to wedding photography, or it is more commonly known as pre-wedding/wedding photography. The last one mentioned is the most promising at least, from my point of view.
In this most promising business, competition goes impermeably from the healthy one to the unhealthy. The healthy one is not a problem, but the other; it results unfavorable circumstances. One example, when I was offering a pre-wedding price above Rp 5 millions, so many photographers offered pricing below Rp 1 million. Phew! It also happened when I was in a photography pitching in one hospital. It was not for the entire parts of the building only a shot taken in an examination room with the equipments.

I offered more than ten millions rupiahs, while there were so many people gave out only couple of hundred thousands rupiahs. Oh my God, what kinna equipments they used! That is the reality, and it even happens up to now. Admittedly, I did that too in the past, but it ended in regret. So, get rid of it.
I think, that kind of predatory pricing strategy that undermines or eliminates the existing competition is more disadvantaging than benefiting. If you are a client, you might doubt on the services and products quality. While if you are a photographer, you might not get proper profits because of your low pricing. As a result, your business will not survive. It might even undergo collapse.
Most important thing to remember is that photography business is one among so many creative works, where creativity is valuable. Thus, it is not cheap. Customers or clients will understand this if they put quality on the front row. Trust me. I often tell my clients whose “hobby” is bargaining, “What you pay is what you get.”
This means, I give him creativity and quality responsibly as how much he pays me. Various Experiences Beside of doing business, I have some unique and interesting experiences accompany me and my team, of course. I have experienced a couple of easygoing clients (for pre-wedding photography). Their main concern was to make photos for their albums, not more. They did not acquire something luxurious. For us, this was fun. We use two scheduled days to relax, have karaoke, play ping-pong and take a nap.

I regret the one that was taken place in Perth, Australia a pre-wedding too. We were there when winter was about to come. As a result, from 21 spots that I had prepared, only 10 that were granted. Meanwhile, something funny happened when I was casting models for a lingerie product. The client was involved at that time.
Unfortunately, the model agency forgot to tell the model that she would only wear two pieces. What did happen next? When the model took off her clothes, the next thing we saw – 1st piece and 2nd piece was a rainbow. Ups! But then, the show must go on. Not only casting for models, we had done it for dogs too. This one was for a pet food product. My misfortune was that the dog was aggressive and bigger than me. As a result, it ran after the photographer. My bad luck!

Why You Should Take Short Courses in the Time of Unemployment

Along with the downfall of the US economy, lots of people have been laid off from their work. To add to this number, the fresh graduates have added to the pool of the unemployed population. With the alarming number of people who do not have jobs, it is crazy to think that there will be some sort of miracle to help them find the opportunity that they are looking for. This leaves them with one option for getting funds which is using the government's unemployment fund.

Fortunately, there are a number of people who take this negative time as a way to learn new things. They enroll themselves in different short courses in photography, MYOB, computer, fitness, personal training, graphic design, child care, cartooning, management, and business. With the amount of free time they have on their hands, they use this and turn it into something they can profit from in the future.

Believe it or not, taking these courses is a great way to pass the free time that you have. This is because when you take a short course, you are giving yourself time to learn something new. With this, you will be able to use the lessons and skills that you have learned to find a better job in the future.

The good news is that these short courses can be taken in a short amount of time only. They are not like college courses where it takes at least 4 years to finish the course. The most that these courses can take is around a year. With this, you can find a job right after you learned the skill.

If you sulk yourself in the negative, you will not go anywhere. This is why you should follow the example that many people have already set. You should not take your unemployment status as a negative issue. Instead, use this to learn new things. You will be surprised at how much you can learn in just a limited amount of time.

There are some people I know who have even taken short courses and have changed their career after. This is because when they took the course, they chose a course that they are interested in. Now that they have been able to master the skill, they are able to use this to their benefit and get a job from it.

I highly suggest that you consider taking some short courses while you are in this stage of your life. When you do, you will have to take me. There are a lot of things you can learn. While you are still young, you should make it a point to learn these things so you can use them for your future's sake.

How To Choose Best Wedding Photographer In Sydney

Digital photography may be one of the late 20th century's most innovative technologies. It is about half the cost of traditional photography, with the results being of equal or better quality. For anyone interested in study at home digital photography classes, there is a wealth of options available on the Internet.

All digital cameras need to develop to the point that they are equivalent in quality to that of the most basic film camera. There must be no difference between the two formats. The most expensive digital cameras are getting close to that standard but the point and shoot models cannot compete with their film counterparts. However, before you start looking at online photography courses, here I give you two of the basic rules of photography from the experts which probably help you before signing a certain online photography courses. The first thing you should know is composition.

Stock photography is primarily used in printed advertisements, brochures, magazines, and websites; though there are many other ways stock photography can be used. Photography is used to preserve memories of favorite times, to capture special moments, to tell stories, to send messages, and as a source of entertainment.

Photography is used to preserve memories of favorite times, to capture special moments, to tell stories, to send messages, and as a source of entertainment. These schools essentially help you to develop creative and artistic skills, along with the technical abilities that are necessary for you to become a professional photographer. For me, it is very difficult to be objective when assessing the photography marketing effectiveness of my website. I have a great deal of trouble being objectively honest with my assessments of my websites. The family and wedding photography industry is booming right now in the United States. The real emphasis placed on the importance of family has seen a surge in portrait photography, and couples in love are spending thousands of dollars on their wedding photography.

By going to a photography school, you'd soon turn your hobby into a profession. Perhaps, you can make a living out of your acquired-photography skills. All the modes of photography have its own set of importance, but Wedding photography and bridal photography are more attached to the whole life of two human beings and their families. Choosing a subject is essential for this type of photography, more so than choosing a subject for color photography. While some subjects can look amazing in color, they often look dull in black and white. Both online and traditional schools are available for students interested in pursuing a degree in photography.

This has been a hobby horse of mine for a few years and some have said get off and stop flogging a dead horse. They may be right and maybe a little wrong. But, there is a solution or rather a number of solutions. Thanks to digital photography, everybody is now a photographer. Even many modern phones come with digital cameras.

Weddings are still considered formal occasions and this type of wedding photography has stood the test of time. With careful lighting and expert posing traditional wedding photography creates a perfect record of your family gathering.
