Digital Photography For Beginners - Why You Must Take A Photography Course Online!

The box is discarded, your gleaming new digital camera is in your hands. Hmm...do you go for the "Quick Start" guide OR the full instruction booklet. Like most people, you will probably go straight for the Quick Start. In your haste you will have missed a big opportunity. At this stage it is worth taking stock and seriously considering a photography course online.

These days, cameras are so easy to use, that you can be pointing, shooting and reviewing your images immediately. The problem with this is that most new photographers don't ever get to experience the full potential of what they can achieve, even with the most basic digital camera. It is very easy to assume that "real" photographs (such as majestic Landscapes or professional looking Portraits) can only be taken by those that do this for a living, or have spent years training to attain qualifications. Believe me - I can tell you from personal experience this simply is not true.

So, does this mean you should now grab the full instruction booklet, and labouriously trawl your way through endless sections of techno-babble? No way - sure the booklet will give you information regarding which setting to use in which situation etc. But the one thing it won't show you, the one missing ingredient that is absolutely ESSENTIAL for professional looking photography, is how to take a GREAT photograph. You really need to learn how to COMPOSE a great picture.

This is where taking a photography course online comes into the equation. I know people who have bought the most expensive digital cameras, but still their pictures look dull and lifeless. Yet most people don't realise that by using a few simple insider tips your photos can go from being run of the mill standard shots to pictures that will amaze and impress your friends and family. Taking such a course need not be expensive either.

You may be thinking "why should I bother to take an online course?" Well, think about it. Wouldn't you like to know the answers to these questions?

* How to use any digital camera (from a simple compact model to a top-of-the-range SLR) to get professional looking shots
* How to take powerful Landscapes that inspire the viewer
* How to take sharp and crystal clear Night shots, time after time
* How to move from taking snapshots to beautiful works of art - so good that in fact people would pay you for them
* How to take family, friend and pet portraits that flatter the model every time - without the need for expensive studio and lighting set ups
* How to take shots that most people would not even think about - to make your pictures stand out from the crowd
* How to easily take stunning black and white images. It is truly amazing how a simple monochrome picture can be much more powerful than its full colour equivalent
* How to use the seasons to your advantage - whether the weather is hot or cold
* How to take total control over your camera - so that you decide the final results...not the camera.

It is well worth considering a photography course online that can quickly move your photos to another level. By following easy to follow guidelines, it truly is possible to create stunning and moving images within a few weeks that will surprise and impress your family and friends.

My daughter is starting a photography course and has asked for a digital slr camera for christmas.?

Does anyone know of a decent make or model that I could get for her. Your advice would be much appreciated as I know nothing about photography.

Canon and Nikon are both excellent manufacturers. Go for an SLR (Single Lens Reflex) with interchangeable lenses if she is serious about photography.

I have a Nikon D50 but there are newer models. The D50 is now out of date but the D40 and D80 are still available. However, I would consider the Canon EOS 350D as its an excellent camera although a little heavier than the D50.

Its a very personal choice and a bit about feel so consider taking her to a big dealer like Jessops on her birthday and letting her choose. Your stuck with the thing for a while so its important its comfortable to use.

I also use a Nikon S1 which I can carry in a shirt pocket whenever I am out and take photos quickly in a crowd or when something interesting happens.

Important things to think about are - how long does it take between switching on and taking first photo. Any action you see can be over waiting for the thing to boot up, and how long between photos too. With the S1 you can take a series of images with one click and then edit them but quality is lower.

Also get a bigger memory card. 1Gb is probably overkill but what they come with you can fill in a weeks holiday.

Good luck and hope she has fun with the thing.
