What year did Popular Photography have their 12th Annual Photo Contest?

Today at an estate sale I bought two really cool black and white photographs that were prize winners for the magazines's 12th Annual photo contest. (Camera used for one of the winning pictures was a Rolleiflex with a 75 mm Xenar f/3.5 )

Believe the magazine was started in 1938, and the photos look like they are from the 1940's or 1950's but can't track down any specific date or any other information (date base of winners, etc.) In advance, thanks for trying to help!

I tried to find out by going to Popular Photography's web site and unfortunatly there were no archives. Because of the camera used, I bet it is from the late 1940's into the 1950's .....good luck!
