Digital Camera Battery Tips

Battery Conservation Tips

Are you always running out of battery power just before you take that perfect picture with your digital camera? Here are some

tips to conserve your batteries when you are out "snapping away".

1) Turn off your digital camera when not in use. If you are in a situation where you must snap pictures quickly, this may not

apply as turning digital cameras on and off take a few seconds, and may cause you to miss a picture-taking opportunity.

However, if you are taking a leisurely stroll and can afford a couple of seconds before snapping a still subject, by all

means, conserve your digital camera's energy!

2) Many digital cameras have a regular viewfinder and an LCD viewfinder. While the digital LCD viewfinder has its benefits,

it can drain battery power. Turn it off when applicable and use your regular viewfinder for taking pictures.

3) Don't stop after taking every photo and look at the picture in your digital camera's playback mode. Granted, you sometimes

need to look at photos immediately after shooting them in order to make sure your exposure is correct, the lighting is ok,

etc., but doing this does use up your digital camera's battery power.

4) If you are using MicroDrive media, be forewarned that these miniature hard drives may take up quite more power than

Compact Flash cards.

Taking care of you new battery pack

Normally, a new battery pack comes in a very low charge condition and must be fully charged before use. Refer to the user

manual of your portable electronic equipment for charging instructions. A new battery pack needs to be fully charged and

fully discharged or "cycled" as much as five times to condition them into performing at full capacity. Your equipment may

report a fully charge condition in as short as 10 to 15 minutes when the new battery pack is being charged for the first

time. This is a normal phenomenon especially for Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cd) and Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) chemistries. When

this happens, remove the battery pack and let it cool

down for about fifteen minutes then repeat the charging procedure. "Conditioning" (fully discharging and then fully charging)

is necessary so as to maintain the optimum performance of a battery pack, and is recommended at least once a month

particularly for Ni-Cd and Ni-MH batteries. Failure to do so could result in reduced charge capacity and can significantly

shorten the battery packs useful life. Lithium Ion batteries do not require conditioning. It is normal for a battery pack to

get warm when charging and during use. However, if the battery pack gets excessive hot, here may be a problem with the

portable electronic equipments charging circuit and should therefore be checked by a qualified technician. Rechargeable

batteries undergo self-discharging when left unused for long periods of time. This is normal particularly in the case of Ni-

MH and Li-ion chemistries. For best results, always store a battery pack fully charged. It should be removed from the

equipment and kept in a cool, dry and clean place. The amount of runtime a battery pack produces depends on the power

requirements of components in your electronic equipment.

Don't let under-charged batteries keep you from taking great photos.

If you infrequently use your digital camera, you may think that you after you use your digital camera, recharge your NiMH

batteries, wait a few weeks or months, then use your digital camera again, that your batteries will be charged and you'll be

ready to snap photos, right?

Oops... Do that and you'll be stuck with a non-functioning digital camera or one that just blinks a picture showing a dead

battery.

Rechargeable batteries don't stay charged forever. They tend to lose a little bit of their power every day. If you charge

your batteries and frequently use your digital camera, you will probably never notice this loss of power. However, after a

couple of weeks, the power loss may be noticeable, and after a couple of months or longer of non-use, those once ready-to-go

batteries may have lost enough power to make them unusable.

Don't get caught in this trap. Always charge your batteries before every trip, and make sure to use a battery charger with a sensor that prevents over-charge.

The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Digital Tv 4 Pc 2

Digital Television is a great technological advancement that allows its viewers to watch a clearer picture while concurrently giving an added incentive to view even more channels than standard television. Moreover, it also eliminates the need for those old fashioned antennas that can cause static and obstruction in viewable television. Nonetheless, with the advancement of digital television, another program has been equally developed. The program is called Digital TV for PC2. Whilst the program is innovative and hassle free, it comes with many additional advantages and disadvantages that should be highlighted in order to allow its purchasers an equal platform to make a clear decision.

Digital TV for PC 2 is a program that allows a viewer to purchase software which can be downloaded onto a PC or laptop which thus enables the customers to view Digital Television programs on a computer versus an actual television. There may be times when you are not able to sit around and wait for your favorite programs to air and would like to convenience of being able to see these programs while you are online. This is where Digital TV for PC 2 comes into play. If you are at your favorite coffee shop like Starbucks or if you are in an area where you have free internet access then Digital TV for PC 2 can help you to enjoy your favorite shows while away from your television set. Also, if you at your home but are not able to view your favorite shows because of lack of programming or maybe you need to be online and watching Television simultaneously, then Digital TV for PC 2 is also a great tool to have. Whilst the advantages seem optimal with this program, there are a few disadvantages as well. Firstly, although the one time fee of $29.99 seems great and affordable, there are a few hidden fees for extras that come along with the service if you choose to add them. There is an additional $9.99 charge for a bonus $150 channels. The company does not disclose which channels are included in the $29.99 fee for the basic service and which bonus channels that you will acquire if you opt for the $9.99 in bonus channel services. The one time fee does not include a any technical support. Premium technical support as well as 2 years of channel updates is an additional $9.99. If you would like Digital TV on demand that service is also another $9.99 and the digital download service guarantee which will allow you to re-download the Digital TV for PC 2 if it ever gets lost is an additional $3.99. After all of the extras and costs for protection and technical support, the cost is no longer the cheap but totals to over $63.95 which is just as costly as cable in your own home. Nonetheless, the drawbacks in additional fees are optional and are not mandatory.

Digital Television is a great feature to enjoy in your home, and is even more enjoyable when on the go while utilizing the service on your home PC or laptop. Digital TV for PC 2 is a great service that comes with advantages and disadvantages that should be weighed before purchasing.

Canon Digital SLR Lens - Choose The Right One

Did you know that the lens is as important. if not more important, than the camera you are using? I use Canon models, so I am always on the lookout for the best Canon digital SLR lens that MY money can buy (I don't have deep pockets).

When I started taking digital photos with my first Olympus 3-megapixel point and shoot camera, I became obsessed with nature pictures. I was especially taken with macro and bird photography.

So now, when you pair Canon digital slr lens with nature, you are talking about image quality in its finest form. For some types of photography like family pictures or street journalism, the sharpness and detail are not quite as important as with nature photos.

I have had the occasion to "lose myself" in a "National Geographic" or "Outdoor Photographer"  magazine, imagining that I was the nature photographer who submitted the award winning photos on those pages.

Those guys and gals who shoot for "National Geographic" use lenses that cost in the thousands of dollars... way too costly for my meager budget.

But getting a good quality Canon digital SLR lens can be accomplished on a smaller budget, and "award winning" images are possible, too.

When I say smaller budget, I am talking about, let's say, a bird lens of about 300mm f/4 with an extender. If you are shooting with a Digital Rebel or a 60D, you can have an effective range of about 600mm, give or take a few millimeters. You can get some excellent photos with that kind of setup.

Or consider a Canon 100mm macro lens. It is an amazing lens for under $900. There are lots of examples of award winning photos with this sweet little macro lens.

The great part about the better lenses is that they are not limited to nature photography. A good long distance lens can do very well with sports like soccer and football. And a 100mm lens is perfect for portraits.

Getting a  good Canon digital SLR lens or two will give you years of gratification in your chosen hobby or profession.

Digital Slr Photography

digital slr photography

What is a Digital SLR Camera and How Does it Compare With a Digital Compact Camera?

The term digital SLR stands for single lens reflex. It is so called because the SLR cameras use a mirror that is placed behind the lens.

Although SLR cameras for capturing still images have been in use for quite some time, the ones that could capture both the stills and the videos were introduced in 2008.

Earlier the SLRs were used only by the professionals. They were not very common and were costly as well. The good news is that the digital SLRs are becoming cheaper as the time passes and coming within the easy reach of even the amateur photographers. You can buy an SLR at the price of a high end digital compact camera.

How does the digital SLR work?

When the light enters through the lens, it falls upon the mirror. The mirror, in turn, reflects (throws) the light upon the focusing screen. The light passing through the focusing screen falls upon a block of glass called pentaprism, which reflects the image  that  can be seen  on the viewfinder. When you take a photo, the mirror flips up opening the shutter which exposes the digital sensor to light.

What- you- see- is- what- you- get photos

The SLR uses the viewfinder to compose the photo and adjust the focus. You can, thus, get the photo of the original as you see it on the lens.

SLR camera allows for a wide range of lenses with different focal lengths.  You can change the lens whenever you like. This is what makes the SLR ideal for serious photography. Moreover, the image sensors of the digital SLRs are large and produce high quality photos.

Lightness and compactness vs. versatility and image quality

An attractive feature of the digital compact cameras is that they are cheap, light, compact and easily portable. You can just pop in the compact camera in your purse or pocket.

The SLRs are weighty and voluminous. Some of them are tank-sized  for professionals. But they provide the invaluable advantage of accommodating a large range of lenses and accessories that were originally designed for film SLR cameras.

Of late, new generation light weight ultra compact DSLRs have also been introduced in the market. They have small lens and  weigh around 20 oz / 0.5 Kg.

While the  crispness and sharpness  of the photos taken with the digital compact camera and SLR camera in broad day is by and large same, the SLR scores over the compact camera when you have to shoot in dim light or capture the fast running scenes of actions. This is because the SLRs have high sensitivity larger sensors.

Anti shake/vibration designs

The photos shot with non-SLR cameras in dim light or with long telephoto lenses may be blurred. The reason is that the camera gets shaken during the exposure. The SLRs are equipped with Image Stabilization (IS) systems that protect them from the impact of motion during exposure. Therefore, the photos shot with SLRs even in dim light or at long focal lengths  are sharp and excellent.

Speed

What makes the SLR much superior to the compact camera is its speed in taking pictures, which makes it ideal for action photography as there is a zero lag time.   Even the entry level SLRs shoot faster than the best compact cameras. So you can easily shoot both a sleeping and a running tiger with this camera.

Dust Removal mechanism

If you have to shoot in arid, dusty or even in humid and damp conditions, no camera can   beat an SLR. They have inbuilt dust removal systems that keep the sensor clean. They have weatherproof seals and solid magnesium alloy cases.

High Definition (HD) videos for HDTVs

This is another advantage of SLRs over the compact cameras. They can shoot High Definition videos. They come equipped with HDMI ports which allow the camera to be directly connected to the TVs.  You can view your videos on the TV.

So which camera should you buy?

It all depends upon your needs. If you want speed, exquisite professional looking photos even in dim light and more control  over the photos and are not bothered about weight and volume, go for an SLR. If you are just an occasional photographer wishing to carry the camera in your pant pocket, you can buy a compact camera.

Digital Photography: Photo Editing?

I am an amateur photographer and am now looking into photo editing, and I just have questions, some of which hopefully you can help me with. Many people are telling me to get Adobe Elements because there is no major difference between that and Adobe Photoshop CS3. But i was also looking into Adobe Lightroom which also looked helpful but what I read seemed like with Lightroom, you need CS3. And then there's Apature. What's a good software? I want to get something good without paying an arm and a leg. I have no idea what to do. I've been watching videos, reading reviews, looking through tutorials and asking friends, yet I still have no clue. Can someone please aid an upcoming professional-yet-serious photographer with useful advice?

Adobe Elements - $100
Adobe Photoshop CS3- $650
Adobe Photoshop Lightroom- $300
Apature 2- $200

PS: I'm on a Mac

I have a Nikon D60 & Nikon D40x

Thank you :-)

If you want to explore the world of Adobe Photoshop without spending the big money for the full product, get Photoshop Elements. It is a tremendously powerful program and it only sells for $99.00. You can get it at http://www.adobe.com or any of the usual places you buy software. I am still using Photoshop Elements 5.0, but PE 6.0 is now out and Adobe claims that it has enhanced Brightness/Contrast tools, Clone tool and Black and White Conversion tool. The other enhancements seem to deal with merging photos (panoramic stitching) and organizing your photos.

You can use it practically right out of the box with the "Quick Fix" option and then you can advance into the full program, learning TONS about the Photoshop world as you go. Frankly, I think most casual users would never explore the full capabilities of Photoshop Elements. If you are ever ready for more, you will already know much of what you need to know about using "real" Photoshop.

Just go here http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshopelwin/ and click "Free Trial" for a 30-day free trial.

Almost every single image on my Flickr site was processed with Photoshop Elements 5.0. Some have from zero to barely any post-processing at all and others have considerable amount of perspective alterations, saturation changes, etc., and these are specified under the picture most of the time.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/samfeinstein/

Check out this question. Look at the image linked in the question. There is not a lot the photographer could have done at the scene to make it better. I mean, when the sun sets - there are shadows. Then look at the "after" version in my answer. This is not a "great" job, but it shows that Photoshop Elements is not just a toy.

Digital Photography: Read the Reviews

Do not miss digital photography reviews as something not worth your time. Contrary to what you may think, you will get a lot of relevant ideas from reading these reviews. In the end, they will help you a lot in your digital photography wants and needs.

Over the years, digital photography has taken over the world of picture-taking and snapshots. It is the very same reason why there are now a lot of real-life photos for people to enjoy.

The need to have photos taken digitally comes from the need to do away with films and other hassles brought about by shooting photos. Not only that, the expenses that used to pile up when buying films and having them developed is also erased.

To be able to keep up with the shift to digital photography, more and more digital cameras and printers have sprung. It seems that what seems to be the most advanced feature today will be outsmarted by another in a few months time. This is the reason why people are always on the lookout for digital photography reviews. This is where they get to read about the latest and where they get the option of what they should have next.

What are some of the reasons why people embraced digital photography so warmly?

1. No film required.

This is probably the primary reason people would rather buy digital cameras even if they cost as much as 5 times more than the conventional film camera. After the initial money spent, there would be no need to buy films over and over again so that they can take pictures.

Without films, you do not have to fear that they will run out any minute. This is especially if you have to take some shots only to find that you do not have film left. With digital cameras, you can take as many pictures as you want as long as your camera has a large memory.

Not only that, days of waiting for the pictures to be developed is definitely out of the question. You can print the photos yourself in the comfort of your home.

2. Easy to carry.

Digital photography cameras are lightweight and they are getting smaller and smaller every year. You can expect manufacturers to come up with additional features that will make photo taking much easier.

Now, you can do away with handbags to carry your camera anywhere. You also do not have to bring camera accessories anywhere you go because one digital camera is all you need to take great pictures all day.

3. Instant edit and delete.

Not satisfied with the way the photo was taken? No problem. All you have to do is edit them before you have them printed.

In addition, you have the capability of deleting unwanted shots even before they are printed. This certainly saves you time and resources since you get to choose the photos you want to have on your album. The initial amount of money you have paid for the digital camera is worth it once you realize the minimal expenses you need to pay in the developing and printing.

These are enough reasons why you should shift to digital photography. Not sure yet if you want one? Try reading digital photography reviews and be convinced.

Wedding Photography Prices?

Hey,

I have been looking at a bunch a wedding photographer websites in my area, and I find allot of them dont list the prices for there packages or whats included with them. All they say is contact them or email them for more information or a quote. And then a few do post the prices, What do you think is better ? What would you do ? Do you think its better for them to show the prices so its easy to tell right away if they are in your budget or does it seem better to have to contact them first to get the price information...

Thanks

I preferred seeing the prices. I got to a point that if I didn't see prices, I would assume they where out of my budget and not even contact them because of previous experience.
And, when I would contact them, all I would get is a price list. Nothing special about them, just what could have been posted online. Waste of time!

A Quick Review of the Nokia N97 Mini

This is not the Old N97, this is the Mini

If you own the original Nokia N97, then you be feeling a little left behind with the new mobile devices coming out this year. For good reason too, most of the newer smart phones are jam packed with high spec features that will make antiques out of the older models. Fortunately, Nokia has not left the N97 series without a much needed update; enter the Nokia N97 Mini, a phone that looks like a smaller version of the N97 but is faster and better in every aspect. It sports features not previously available on N97 that focuses on its connectivity and GPS capabilities. Of course, the best thing about the Mini is that it is more compact and lighter than the original N97.

The Overview of the Mobile Phone

To give a quick overview, the N97 Mini is a smart phone with side tilt, a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, a 3.2” touch screen display, a battery with excellent life, a 5 mega pixel camera with dual LED flash and Carl Zeiss Tessar lens; and that is just stating what is obvious when you get you hands on the unit itself. Aside from these specs that can be easily seen from the external features, the N97 packs a whole lot more inside. The processor is pretty good and is able to handle the Symbian operating system fast and easy. You get A-GPS coverage with Ovi Shop updates for the most up to date maps, aside from other interesting applications which make use of the GPS features of course.

Up Close with the N97 Features

Five mega pixels is plenty for the average user. Any higher and you might want to consider getting a digital single lens reflex camera instead. While there are camera phones that have up to 12 mega pixel lenses, they are rarely useful for professional photography. As is it is, five mega pixels provides enough resolution for everyday use photos. You can print these in high quality detail up to 4R sizes. The auto focus and LED flash makes taking clear photos easy to do. Just do not expect this humble phone to shoot award winning images for you.

The phone also has 8GB of storage, and that is plenty enough to store videos of your favorite shows to watch on the go. Video playback is easy with the built in media player, not to mention the battery life will last you several hours of continuous video playback. As music player, this mobile phone will last for a whole day, just plug in your favorite speakers on the 3.5mm head phone jack on the side and you are ready to go. With excellent features, specially designed Facebook software, great battery and solid design, Nokia has done very well with the Nokia N97 Mini.

Beginning Photography Tips, a Few Basic Tips for Taking Digital Photography

My first tip for taking digital photography for anyone whether they are beginning, or have some degree of experience is “don’t be frightened of your camera”. Get used to handling your camera so that you feel comfortable with it. Make sure you know where all the controls are, and familiarise yourself with their functions. This is one of the basic beginning photography tips that often gets overlooked as it is such an obvious one.

Once you are comfortable handling your digital camera and have learnt how to use all the controls and functions, my next tip for taking digital photography is to take lots and lots of pictures. The beauty of digital photography is that you do not need to keep every picture that you take. You are not paying for a long processing sequence like you would be if you were using a camera that uses rolls of film, so you can be a lot more extravagant when it comes to taking pictures. Plus you may just take a prize winning photo purely by chance, and any photos you don’t want you can simply delete.

Another of the basic beginning photography tips that people often forget is to hold the camera steady. Again this may sound pretty obvious but it’s surprising just how many of us forget this simple little tip when we rush to get a good photo. It is important to actually practice holding the camera so that you automatically steady it for every picture that you take. How often have you seen the chance of a great picture only to rush it and ruin the shot? It’s far better to get one or two great pictures than dozens of blurred or poor quality ones.

My next tip is to always make sure that you have enough memory capacity on your digital camera. There is nothing worse than coming across something that would make a great picture only to find that you have no more room on your camera. Get into the habit of going through the photos stored on your camera on a regular basis, and deleting the ones you don’t want, and downloading and storing the ones you do want onto your computer, or have them printed off. Also buy a second card for your camera so that you always have a spare one with you just in case you need it.

Once you have got this far you should have loads of photos that you have taken, now is the time to study these and see if there is room for improvement. Maybe some of them are still coming out slightly blurred, so you will need to pay attention to your focusing. Remember that a digital camera has a tendency to take a little longer to focus when compared to a camera that uses roll film.

Maybe you are not happy with the lighting on some of your pictures, so try practising using the flash. The flash on a camera is not only designed to be used when taking photos indoors, it is also great for getting good sharp pictures outside as well, especially if the subject is in shade or if the natural light is low, like in the late evening.

I suppose that one of the most important beginning photography tips that I can give you is to “get out there and have some fun with your camera”. Take loads of photos and practice as you go. Use your camera as often and as much as you can. My last little tip would to be to get hold of a good book on digital photography, this way you will get all the tips for taking digital photography and learn all the usual mistakes to avoid right from the start.

The Movement from Film to Digital Photography

Many of us remember the days of cameras with film—you had to take it to the store and pay for it to be processed. If you are like most people you often forgot to get the film to the store and by the time you got around to it you had 20-30 rolls that needed developing. Instead of $10-15 you had to put out $40-50 or more depending on the number of exposures on the roll. Of course, that was if you had not left them so long that the film deteriorated and the exposures were ruined.

Of course, the biggest inconvenience was that you had the take the film out of the camera and to the store if you wanted the pictures immediately. Of course, you had mailers you could send, but those could take a week or more to come back, thus the next best solution was the one hour photo labs which were more expensive than standard processing. It was definitely an improvement over the original film processing which always had to go to the lab and could take a week for completion.

When digital photography first became popular most people took their memory cards to the store and had the pictures printed. One of the reasons for this was in the beginning of digital photography technology only special digital camera printers were designed to print photos were a digital camera. In the beginning they were also quite expensive—almost the same cost as that of a standard home computer printer. For many people it was more economical to pay for printing of digital photographs than invest in a special printer.

Today many printers are made with photo quality so that you can download the pictures from your digital camera directly to your computer and print them on high quality photo paper. Of course, if you take a great many pictures that you want printed, it may be cheaper to go to the store instead of using the ink in your printer. However it is very easy to see how digital photography has changed the way we capture and retain pictures. Newer cameras have memory cards you can buy to increase the number of pictures you can store and to allow you to either download them to your computer or pay for photograph processing. As we proceed into the 21st century, we can expect to see advanced digital photography.

Good Reasons To Try Photography For Dummies Online To Help You Boost Your Photography Technique

Once you understand the principles behind photography, such as exposure, light control, composition, and positioning, becoming familiar with your equipment is the next logical step. Even the most rudimentary camera system takes time to understand before you can fully appreciate the technology and functions that are at your disposal. This article contains a few suggestions to help guide you to becoming more proficient with your equipment.

Read the Manufacturer's Manual

It is safe to say this is the least favorite step for most people. After all, who wants to read the manual when you have the camera sitting in front of you? A little bit of will power goes a long way with this critical step. Resist the temptation to change settings, touch internal parts, or power up the unit until you have read the manufacturer's instructions. Failing to heed the warnings could possibly cause irreversible damage to your new camera. It may not be necessary to read the entire manual before handling the camera, but at least understand the quick start guide before experimenting with the unit.

Take a Photography Course

You should enroll in a photography course soon after you become familiar with the basic functions of your camera. There is often a single contributing factor that will cause you to deny yourself the benefits of enrolling in a photography course…pride. Many people feel that they are too advanced to take a beginner's photography course and they often miss out on many of the fundamentals of photography. The Proud Photography Interactive Photography Course offers a variety of courses for the beginner to the intermediate photographer. The instruction staff at Proud Photography Course have many years of experience in the field of photography. The skill sets you learn through the Proud Photography Course will help you raise the bar from taking good photographs to taking great photographs. The cost of enrollment is nominal and the skills you learn will become the basis for further proficiencies.

Participate in Forums and Photography Sharing

Being a member of a photography club is one solution, but how many of us have the time to regularly attend the meetings? And while personal interaction has its benefits, people are often reluctant to share their secrets with the ones they know or feel uncomfortable giving frank opinions on their photographs. And obviously a club will have limited local membership – people who live and photograph in the same area and conditions as you do. That's where online photography forums score.

You can visit an online forum and read and post whenever you want to – no fixed timings. You can log on after a month and catch up on things of your interest that have happened while you were away. Members are typically from around the world and will have different levels of experience in areas of photography you may want to learn more about.

Online forums offer you the ability to interact with other photographs from beginners to the experts. Many online resources, such as ePhotoZine offer free space where you can post your photographs and receive feedback from the online users. Public forums may also inspire you to try new methods of composition and style. Furthermore, you can always judge your proficiencies privately and find ways to improve your skills.

No matter what your skill level, there is always something new to learn in photography.
