what equipment and material is needed to start a photography business?

I am currently in the process of starting a photography business. I will be doing portraits and do other types of photography as my business grows. I need to know what are the essentials equipment wise that I will need to get.

Hi,

just launched in uk

I would suggest digital camera body 6mp plus (Seconhand canon 20D is good value at present) 50 mm 1.4 or 1.8 lens
plus 85 mm 1.8 lens If money is no object then a 24-70 2.8 L or 28-70 2.8 L lens

Flash equipment - 3 heads if working at your place check out alien bees if you work on location check out lumedyne.

Background and stands - not essential if you mwork on location

Computer and image editing software - Photoshop is the industry standart but many others do the same job and are free.

If you want to do weddings 2nd camera body 2 on camera flash - lots of memory cards and backups of most things

Also some business advice.

Check out www.fredmiranda.com forums and if you are moving into weddings check out the digital wedding forum

Hope this helps
