Getting a Photography Degree online?

I would like to become a professional photographer and am looking into photography schools in north Texas, and the only one I can find is a 4 year university. I am a 35 year old stay at home mom so going with a 4 year degree would be exhausting. I've looked into the Academy of Art online photography programs and noticed they are different than their classroom programs. Can I learn what I need to online? What are your opinions on online and classroom programs?

I am a professional photographer and have been for 9 years. You do not need a degree. You can take a photography class at any local university and get a certification. Your work is what clients will look at and you will have to have a basic knowledge of technical skills such as: aperature, shutter, lenses, lighting, and all the other how to's. Your composition is something you can practice. You can also buy some books and save yourself a lot of money by learning these things on your own.

I have done over 250+ weddings and hundreds of commercial photography assignments. All of which I have done without a degree. Save yourself the money and just take some basic classes, and then just get out there and sell yourself.

Good luck. As Nike says, "Just Do It!"

digital photography?

i would like to learn more about photography courses on line but cannot afford to pay loads of money for them any reccomendations

Forget about web courses, you need the tutor right there with you, a demonstration is much more effective than e-mails trying to describe it flying backwards and forwards - which just doesn't work.

As others have said there are loads of courses available in your area, here in the UK every college and most sixth forms have Photographic courses you can join, try your local school. Prices are from free to about £35.00 a term to cover printing and ink costs, tuition for basic Photography is usually free.

Clubs are another source of tuition, in our club in N E Derbyshire we offer tuition in Portraiture, Landscape, Townscape (Architectural), Macro (Desktop Studio), Colour Calibration, Photoshop, Printing, etc. etc. the list goes on, whatever the members want, currently our annual subscription is £35.00 per year.

We also run competitions which really help motivate you to improve your images.

There are loads of such clubs, some bad some good, There are 4 such clubs within 10 miles from where I sit, and the same is true of most areas in the UK.

The most important thing is to take pictures - loads of 'em.
