free photo editing software to download?

the one i have on my laptop is crap!
i'm gonna get a new laptop but in october and my mum said she'll put photoshop on it.
and as i love photography i need a photo editing software...a free one ...which is good?

these are some of the ones you should download, if you are only going to download one i suggest picasa 2 but they are all really good softwares & i have added the link from where you can download them.

if you have any spare cash or for a birthday or christmas or something you could get a professional editing software like jasc paint shop pro or corel or adobe photoshop,

or you can take a free trial its about 30 days or 60 and when that finishes use a different free trial - try adobe photoshop, corel, or jasc or even arcsoft photo impression. basically use up all the free trails and if you have any money buy the one you liked best.

also i have loads of editing software already on my computer some came with my scanner and my phone and i got a really good one from my camera so you could check out your default ones.
can't wait to see your photos, i will keep an eye out for more of your questions in the photography section ;]

but remember its not all about the editing its about your camera too and the lens.

What would you suggest that I buy?

I already own a Canon Rebel T2i. I only have the 18-55 mm lens that came with it though. No other equipment. What lenses & other equipment would you suggest I buy in the immediate future for outdoor portrait photography? I have heard of telephoto lenses, macro lenses, lighting equipment, and I of course plan to buy a tripod. I'm thinking an extra battery & bigger memory card would be smart. Any editing software? I'm pleased with my pictures before I edit them but I like to play around with different editing tools but I'm tired of my limited software I currently use. Just looking for suggestions, thanks! *Please be specific on names & models of items*

There are several things you can buy.

For editing software you can use the basic Canon Software, Photo Editing Professional.
This program should have come with your T2i.
Considering the fact that you may need to progress, Adobe Photoshop Elements typically costs $99.00 and has roughly 85% of the full photoshop version.
If you are a student, you can purchase all of the photo-editing software for very cheap compared to the full prices.

Now lets talk about the T2i.
While the T2i is a very nice camera you have some pro's and con's
Con-
1) Small Viewfinder and I mean Tiny,small, minuscule, smaller then you can see out of.
While this may not seem like a problem, wait until you are shooting a event and trying to get a sharp focus, on top of that it makes manually focusing very hard.
2) Slow flash data storage for your images, requires you buying a expensive card to somewhat resolve this and can never really fix this.
3) Small in your hands.

Pro-
1) 1.6x Magnification on all of your lenses. This is due to your crop factor sensor.
2) 18 working Mega Pixels. Sharper larger images
3) Live-view While you may not have a good viewfinder, your live-view function helps but drains battery fast.
4) Cheap sharp EF-S lenses

Now that I have pointed out a few good and bad things about the T2i.

Lets talk about lenses.

Dollar for dollar you should buy two lenses.

85mm F/1.8 Canon EF Lens
55-250mm F/4-5.6 IS USM Lens

The 55-250mm F/4-5.6 IS USM Lens was the best lens for the price.
You can buy this lens on craigslist for cheap and it is a very sharp lens.
I have had excellent results with this lens when I had owned it.

Many people will tell you to buy a 50mm F/1.8 lens.
From my personal experience the 85mm F/1.8 is a better lens.
The 50mm F/1.8 is a good general all purpose lens. This lens is cheaply made and I never was happy with this lens.
Poorly designed and cheap lens.
Think of the lens as a pure point and shoot lens. It is a lens you can't manually focus because literally the manual focus is 1/8th of an inch. Tiny.
