Is the Nikon D5000 or the Nikon D90 right for me?

I have always been into photography, photo editing and graphic design. I've just recently decided to take my interest to the next level and buy a DSLR. My plan is to learn the camera I choose front and back; take digital art classes and attend workshops with professional photographers. I will start by taking photos for fun; of family and friends, vacations and holidays. My goal will be to eventually turn my fun hobby into a professional career. I'm interested in both the Nikon D5000 and the Nikon D90. I held both cameras at our local best buy. I really like the feel of the D5000; it's lighter and more compact. Where as the D90 has more features so it's a bit bulkier. I'm also a little worried that if I do choose the D5000 that I'll grow out of it too quickly. Price is not a matter. Tell me a little bit about each camera; good and bad. Help me decide which Nikon camera is right for me? Any other suggestions can also be helpful.

The D90 is clearly the better camera.
If you can afford either one and just don't know which one to get,
the D90 is the safer choice and is a little more future proof.

I have about $750 to work with.Need Professional Digital Camera and PC/Notebook?

I have $750 to spend. I need a professional digital camera. (5 MegaPixels or more, that would be good for a college digital photography class. Several Basic Techniques of Digital Photography For The Beginners

Beginners in photography should improve their techniques in order to create pictures in great quality. They can learn a lot of techniques in many ways, such as asking more information to their more expert friends, attending courses, attending workshop, and also doing regular practice. If you are one of those people, you will get some of the most basic photography techniques that should be owned by beginners. You can try to be expert on it while you are finding more places or ways to improve your skill in taking high quality pictures.

The first technique that should be mastered by a beginner is holding a camera steadily. Blurry picture is one of the most obvious problems that you will face if you can not master this technique. Make sure that your hand is stable enough in holding the camera to avoid lens shaking. You can do it by holding the camera with both of your hands and place your elbow to your chest. Be as relax as possible in taking the picture so you can take the best angle in capturing the objects. If you still get difficulties in keeping your hand steady, you can simply use your tripod.

Second, you have to choose the format. You need to choose either vertical or horizontal format in taking picture with your camera. It is very important to give emphasize in your photographs. Vertical format will be perfect to be used in emphasizing the height of tall things. Meanwhile, you can simply use horizontal format to take panorama pictures.

Third, finding the best viewpoint for the object is very important. You can put off the subject of your photograph in order to make your shot more appealing. It allows you to boast the environment as well as the people and their activities in the picture. Therefore, it will be more interesting to see.

Last but not least, you have to keep your attention to the lighting. You have to notice the main source of the coming down light. The, you also have to avoid top light since it will make shadows under the eyes. If you are shouting outdoors, you can simply use digital camera. However, you need to turn off the flash component first in order to reduce the shadow.

By mastering those techniques, you will be able to capture good shots with your camera. However, you should keep improving your skill in order to increase the quality of your photographs. Good luck.

I don't know if its the same chap, but the location seems right and the name is unusual.

As the Lunesdale Camera Club is Lottery funded they have to offer free tutoring as part of their Lottery remit. So it may be better for you to join this club if its local to you and get the tuition for free. The competitions in these clubs are always hotly contested and your photographic technique and knowledge will grow very fast if you want to be competitive.

I'm surprised that Lancaster University can't offer a newer version of Photoshop than CS, this means that if you have an up to date camera, and want to shoot Raw, CS won't be able to open them.

The cost isn't excessive for these events particularly if you live local and can avoid living on campus, but being there in the evenings often means that tuition usually continues, at least in my experience as a tutor.

Forget book/remote learning its the slowest way to learn anything and its easy to get hold of the wrong end of the stick and to pick up bad habits.

For someone who want to pursue a career in Photography its not the best course, its just an introduction. A better way would be to take a college course if you can spare the time with a low income whilst your a student. They will have access to all the local employers and can often place you in work as a photographer after you've qualified.

Digital Photography Tutorials - Filters?

For those of you interested in digital photography, tutorials are going to be a great way to get yourself familiarized with the tricks of the trade. Let's start off by learning some things about digital cameras.

 

Filters, where once an essential part of photography but are they still required in digital photography?

 

Filters are basically made from plastic or glass and are placed in front of the lens to prevent some light waves from reaching the sensor. And although a majority of the filters are manufactured for DSLR cameras, generic filters can also be purchased to be used with digital cameras.

 

The first most common type of filter being used is the UV filter. Often a UV filter is placed on the lens to not only filter UV rays but also to protect the surface of the lens. Far better to scratch the replaceable filter than your lens itself!

 

The next is the ND Grad, or Neutral Density Graduation filter. This filter is separated into two sections, with one region being significantly darker than the other. The ND filter is used for landscape photography when there is too much contrast in a scene to hold both hilites and shadows i.e Sky and the land. What is does is to darken the sky and balance the exposure stops between the two, i.e. sky and land. The brightness range problem is also significantly solved with this filter. Another must have recommended in all digital photography tutorials. However this is one case where I personally very rarely use Grads as I prefer to take several exposures and combine them in Photoshop.

 

Another filter worthy of a mention is a polarizer which cannot be completely replaced by digital post production techniques. A polarizer allows you to adjust specific light rays that should pass through the lens onto the sensor. This filter is best used to compensate for the excessive reflections from a surface like a lake or similar surfaces but also can help saturate colours.

 

As you can see from just mentioning these few filters above some are no longer a must have in your camera bag while others still a place.

 

My advice is if you need to use filters in your photography and you can afford it buy the better quality glass filters as you'd be surprised how much cheaper filters can spoil the quality of your images.
