green screen photography?

i don't do any professional photography or anything, i'm 16, and whenever family or friends are over i'm always looking for a solid background to take "model-esque" or professional looking portraits and creative photos with..

so i was thinking about buying a cheap white background, but then i came across green screens that can be bought... i know you can change the background with it. and i just looked up that it does this when you tell your photo-editing software to remove the green in the picture;
my question is,
if someone is wearing green, will it remove it from their shirt as well as the background color?

is it more practical to get a white screen? or would it be smarter to get a green screen because i can use it for more?

you can us green or blue or black or anytthing in fact .Just lasso round the image object and splat it on a colour and tidy the edges .the blue/green screen trick is old hat .You could paint different backboards in a few shades so to have more flexibility with one particular colour.
