Digital photography? I need some tips from a real photographer.?

This weekend I am gonna have a friend take some digital black and white pictures of me and my daughter. Is going to be outdors, I want to take them to a printshop to enlarge them and then frame them.
He is not a profesional photogarpher but offer to do it for us since he has a good camera equipment and is more affordable for me.
Any suggestions in terms of outdor lighting. What clothing color should we wear? Do I have to use makeup? What pictures do you think will come out better, the ones taken at the park or at the beach? (lighting) Thanks.

- Canon CA28105352EF Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto EF 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 II USM Autofocus Lens
- Canon CA50182EF Normal EF 50mm f/1.8 II Autofocus Lens

I'm not a professional but im experienced, photography's my life. I would say it doesn't really matter the backdrop whether at the beach or the park, maybe both. As for clothing, I'd wear a light coloured shirt and dark bottoms, as then your face won't be washed out by the dark colours. Hopefully I helped::)
