Digital camera, good quality without batteries?

I am looking to buy a nice digital camera, mostly for indoor/social picture but I also like to play around with photography so i want something with good quality zoom and high resolution.

However most of the cameras I find seem to run off AA batteries. Is this normal? It just doesn't seem like a few batteries could keep a camera like that going. I was kind of hoping to find something I could plug in and recharge without having to have a bevy of batteries on me at all times.

Sorry if this sounds ignorant, I kind of am. Hoping someone can help me. Thanks in advance.
Sorry, I meant that I was looking for a camera with a built is rechargable battery that comes with a charger, if that makes sense. My handycam has one.

I understand your situation but I have never heard of a camera without batteries. However, there are cameras which come with a rechargeable battery which you can just recharge on the go without having to go through a whole pack of them in a week. I've found a few cameras with this option that might interest you:

This camera is really top of the line and it can take both pictures and hd videos. It comes with a rechargeable battery and the charger for the battery:

That one is a bit pricey so here is the model which came right before it but it only takes pictures. It also comes with a rechargeable battery and a charger:

If you are looking for something more compact and less expensive, this is a very good camera and although it comes with a rechargeable battery, I am not sure if it comes with the charger as well:

It really depends on your budget and how much you want to invest in a camera. If you want to take great pictures and enjoy taking them at the same time, I would recommend the d3000. However, it does depend on your needs so good luck with choosing a camera. :)
