what's a good photography software ?

i need a really good program for photography except PHOTOSHOP :!

Most of the pros I know have started using Adobe Lightroom 3 ($300 MSRP, $100 in the student store). It does everything a photographer needs to do plus a lot more.

Is the reason you do not want to use the standard photo retouching, post production and prepess program, Photoshop, other than its cost? If you are a student, you can buy it in the student store for under $200.
