Film and digital photography queston?

I am writing a paper for my college class and I need some information on something

here is my thesis first,

The development from film photogrpahy to digital has caused a growth of more photographers in America.


I need evidence on this though, which is easily common sense...but I need websites or books to actaully prove it...any good ideas?

There are loads of reports of sales of digital cameras - just use google.

You will find info such as

Just dig the bones out of the various reports.


p.s. it has not "caused a growth of more photographers". It has caused a growth in the number of people with a camera. There is a vast difference.
