Live band photography...?
I'm taking some photos for a friend tonight, of his band practicing, cos they don't have any. There's three of them- a guitarist, bassist and violinist, the guitarist is the vocalist. (its a folk punk acoustic band)
They're practicing in a room in a local town hall, it'll be late so artificial light as well- pretty boring place to take cool pics.
Any good shots I could try out- composition ideas, best settings to take pics on etc, just general tips would really be appreciated here thanks. I can't access my parents manual professional camera either, im stuck with a fujifilm finepix compact digital one, basic settings such as "portrait", "landscape", "snow", "flower", "sport", "night" settings etc. and you can change the exposure compensation, white balance, high speed shooting (on or off) on manual settings, thats it. tips please!
White balance will probably be Auto or Tungsten.Set the highest ISO setting you can, your shots can look a bit pixelated, but apply grain texture in monochrome for a 1960s look.Mode settings, try portrait, flower and night settings. The others may affect your exposure too much,or your focusing. You should have the advantage of looking at your shots as taken,so don't be afraid to re-shoot.Musicians performance often includes repeats. If they are practising, you can always repeat,it's not like a live concert.Musicians are mostly extroverts,so they always perform. If they have their favourites they will always copy their stage acts, ask them.Let them live out their fantasies through your camera.
