What is a good digital camera for black and white photos (check the link below)?
I am interested in black and white photography, nothing professional but just on a basic level, and I saw these pictures here: http://news.yahoo.com/page/venice
I thought those pics were pretty good, so I'm just wondering about the camera. Also if anyone knows any good books, please recommend.
There are two things to consider.
Traditional black and white photography uses film and film cameras cost about 1/5th the cost of a digital SLR. They use the same lenses do if you eventually decide to go digital, all you will need to do is buy a digital body.
If you pick a Canon or Nikon film body (there are good used ones available) as your "starter", you will be able to find good used lenses as well that will keep your costs down, yet you will have some good, long lasting equipment.
Digital black and white is best generated from full color digital images which have had each of the RGB layers of the image de-saturated using a program like Photoshop.
I hope this helps some. If you have further questions, feel free to use the email option here.
