What kind of camera and photo editing software should I get?
I have always been really interested in photography, but have always just had fairly standard cameras. I am planning on taking some photography classes next month, and would like to get a nice digital camera and a picture editing software. Being that I am pretty new at all this, I don't really know where to start. Any suggestions?
I would highly recommend the Canon Rebel XS (also known as EOS 1000D) for beginners. It's usually under $500 for a new one, but if you want to go a bit cheaper, check out the Nikon D40. I would suggest purchasing a refurbished one from Adorama, since refurbished cameras come out of the packaging just like new, but cost less money.
As for editing software.. I would recommend GIMP. It's free and legal. You can download it here: http://gimp.org/downloads/
