Wireless Digital Picture Frame

Wireless Digital Picture Frame

What does it mean if your frame is a wireless digital picture frame?

Wireless digital picture frames are new in the market, and while it is not an absolute must to have it makes displaying your images a lot easier!  For example most digital frame manufacturers provide their own online photo sharing service where you can subscribe for storage space. This is especially useful when you're buying someone a frame and want to send them pictures remotely. All you need to do is upload these to the photo sharing service and the digital frame will automatically download and display them. This feature especially makes wireless frames an excellent choice for a gift.

You can configure the frame so that you manage the photos that appear in the display. All you need to know is how to set up or add a device to an existing network, and with the latest operating systems this is fairly straight forward; if you have this skill then wireless is a great way to go.

In addition it eliminates the need for the frame owner to manually hook the digital frame up to a phone line or upload pictures from a computer. You can also stream images wirelessly from a PC if it is Wi-Fi enabled as well.

Common Wireless Frame Features

The highlight of any wireless frame is naturally its Wi-Fi capability. However, increased market reception and competition have prompted mainstream digital frame manufacturers to cram more features into their products. For instance, Kodak has a very impressive line of wireless frames, the EX series, which boasts multimedia playback support. So you can now accent your slideshows with an (MP3 or MP4) music track playing in the background, and you can even store and watch entire movies on your frame!

But if the onboard memory doesn't satisfy you, wireless frames almost always come equipped with a USB slot to which you can plug a memory card or flash drive. You can also directly stream your files from a PC or print out photos wirelessly.

What to Look for When Purchasing Wireless Photo Frames

If you're going to purchase a wireless frame, it's vital that you make sure you're getting a good deal for your money. There are many cheap choices in the market with scaled-down screen sizes or limited features; choosing them can potentially ruin the whole photo-sharing experience. This is because a high screen resolution on a small frame or limited image support often means you're going to see watered down photographs. A decent frame size is at least 8 inches with an 800 x 480 resolution. Also, a good array of image and multimedia formats must be supported if you want to save yourself the hassle of manually converting images to a supported format.

No matter what brand of digital frames you're considering, there's always an online photo sharing service included in the package. So find out how much this costs. Some manufacturers bill their frames low but extort you on the photo storage. Remember the old adage that if something looks too good to be true - then it generally is!

Also, if you wish to make the most of your digital frame, you might want to check if the frame comes enabled to use FrameChannel. This is a free online service allowing you to access a variety of dynamic content through your frame. Other features you should look for are onboard storage, good customer support and a strong warranty sercuring your purchase.

Decide if you want your frame to play videos or music

Many frames have speakers built in.  These frames allow you to play background music or your videos.

Decide if you want to use the internal memory or buy a memory card.

The memory is where your images will be stored.  Most frames come with some memory but it may not be enough to store all of your photos. This gives you two options:

  1. Buy a frame with lots of internal memory

  2. Buy a separate memory card

If you are not that technical then you want to take the easy way and buy and extra memory card.  Memory cards are cheap for an extra $10 or $15 your should be able to get a 2GB or 4GB card which will display plenty of your pictures.

Even if you are not a technical person you may know enough that is simpler to purchase the extra memory card load it up with images and insert into your frame.

Decide what size you want the screen to be.

Frames are available in all sizes from Keychains to 32inch widescreens.  Some of the most popular sizes are 8 inch and 10 inch but there are also many 7 inch, 12 inch, and 14 inch frames.

In addition to the screen size you will want to make sure the frame has a good resolution because this dictates how sharp the images appear on the screen. Some frames have a larger screen size but the images look fuzzy because of a low resolution.

Decide if you want a Matte of Glossy Finish.

Glossy finishes are more popular on modern or futuristic frame styles whereas matte finishes are more common on the traditional frame styles, howevermMatte finishes display better in bright rooms.
