Any tips for clothing photo shoot?

Hello ! My new project is a catalog for a retail - clothing company . I ll take photos of the clothes so you have any suggestions for the shooting? (lights, background ). i though to place them on a white background but a friend told me that is better to have models wearing them. i don't care about the models i ll not show faces and etc. i ll give emphasize on the clothes.
i have the canon eos 350d

It's always better to shoot clothes actually on people.

What equipment do you have?

If you don't have any lighting equipment then shoot close to a large window using daylight and fill-in flash. It's better to use a flashgun on top of the camera rather than the cameras built-in flash. Get someone to hold a large piece of white card or board on the shadow side of the model to reflect some light back. As far as the lens to use, on the 350d a 50mm focal length will be fine. Experiment with the exposure and shoot on manual and keep checking the results on the screen on the back. You can't always trust auto exposure especially under those conditions
