What is the name for snap on lens accessories for point and shoot digital cameras? Are the worth while?

I've got a Nikon Coolpix S610 on order. Under accessories on the Nikon site, there is a leather case listed that shows a snap on lens. But I don't see any description.

Any information about this camera specifically or these lenses in general would be appreciated.

The lenses shown in the link are called add-on lenses and are available for certain cameras, but sadly not yours.

They are used to extend the range of P&S cameras since there is no way to exchange lenses like DSLR's.

You can look for other Nikon Coolpix cameras and see which ones do have the ability to take add-on lenses.

The difference in costs between a P&S with two or three add-on lenses may cost more that just buying the Nikon D40 with 18-55 mm lens ($450) and the D40 has a sensor that has a sensor that is over 15 times larger, thus can provide much better image quality
