How large of an external hard drive would I need?
I just purchased a new laptop and I want to buy an external HD. I basically just want to put music files, photos, and my cell phone software on it....how big of a HD should I purchase?
You might find that your external harddrive will fill up faster than you think. I always try to go with the 'Best Bang for the Buck' theory. With harddrives the larger the harddrive, the cheaper the GigaByte per dollar ratio becomes. To back my statement, search for 80GB harddrives, and price them to 500GB harddrives. This information is for a 3.5" harddrive. (3 and a half inches wide. Standard size for desktop internal harddrive)
An 80GB Western Digital Sata harddrive is about $45 bucks. 500GB? About $90 bucks. I would suggest buying an external enclosure that uses a USB cable,( And is for Sata harddrives), and purchasing a 500GB 3.5" Sata harddrive. Install the 500GB harddrive in the external enclosure yourself. Cheaper! Portability? About the size of a womans clutch purse. (Not much bigger than my trucker/biker wallet.)
