Nikon D5000 or Canon T1i? Easy 10 points!?

I would classify myself as a late beginner photographer. I've been doing it for a year, and I've almost got the hang of Manual on my digital camera (it has other settings as well).

I want to get a DSLR now, and I'm torn between the Nikon D5000 and Canon EOS D500 (rebel T1i).
I pretty much know the pros and cons of each from a bunch of reviews, but I still can't make up my mind.

The two things I enjoy taking pictures of the most are nature shots (close-ups of flowers, animals, etc.) and regular family/friend shots.

I've heard the Canon is better in general for movies, ISO noise level, etc. But what really got me for the Nikon was the LCD that you can swivel. I wouldn't have cared that much, but my nature photography book says swivel LCDs are really great for getting good focus especially in nature shots.

Anyone who has tried both cameras and wants to give their opinion? Easy 10 points. :)

There were several tests including this one (http://www.cameralabs.com/reviews/Nikon_D5000/verdict.shtml)
which indicated that Nikon D5000 produces superior image quality overall to EOS D500.
Based on the photography subjects that you've mentioned above noise levels won't be an issue (especially with all the noise reduction software we have available today). Obviously, Nikon people will encourage you to get Nikon and vise versa. I suggest, if you haven't done so yet...go to the local store and actually hold both of these cameras and you'll probably be able to decide then and there which one you like more.
