Digital Photography Computer

What is the recommended computer System for digital photography?

What PC is best? What is the min RAM. How big of a hard drive? Ect

To be honest PC is not the best system to use, Apple Mac is far superior but not everybody can afford that (including me!).

I use PC and to be honest my system is ancient but works!, when it finally dies I will replace it.

I currently have..

Dell something or other..
Intel Pentium 4 - 2.80ghz
2gb of RAM

Hard Drives
Internal - 160gb
2x 300gb external hard drives

This is enough for me to easily run Adobe Lightroom, Adobe CS3 and firefox in the background with no problems. I picked up this computer about 4 years ago for about £150 with monitor and a few other bits and pieces. Since then I have purchased a 21 inch Dell Trinitron CRT monitor (can not beat the old CRT trinitron monitors for photo editing, superb quality and better than the flat screen TFT screens, google it and find out!)..

I picked up my monitor on eBay for £30, an absolute bargain.

To give you a better and quick answer, I would say the minimum RAM required is 2gb (go for 4gb if you can), hard drive I would say minimum of 160gb internal but these days you get 10x that as standard. Back up everything to external hard drives! (important). And I would say that 21 inch is minimum for monitor size, anything less gets very cramped.

It's all subjective really, this is my personal opinion and how I operate, some people will say that you need to spend £1000's on a computer system, I reckon mine is worth less than £100 now but works absolutely fine for me!.
