What is your favorite software program to achieve that painterly look in your photography?
I have Elements and Virtual Painter, but I am wondering if there are other favorites to achieve this effect. Can you link me to examples?
"Painterly effect" is a common photographic term, especially used in judging.
Depends which 'painterly effect' you want, watercolour, Oils, Acrylic, there are literally thousands of techniques and loads of Photoshop tutorials which will also work with Elements, then there are the Artistic Filters in Elements too.
The start image is all important, I find a good HDR works best with their wide contrast and saturated colour for oil or acrylic types, but a gentler image is needed for a watercolour with it's subtlety.
A Threshold Layer in PS will define edges and give a sketch look then you can blend back the colours or add your own. There's nothing to stop you 'colouring in' a B&W image, don't forget PS was a drawing tool before it became a photo editing programme.
Its far too wide a question for a simple answer on YA. I'm surprised at you Diane.
