What SLR digital camera is the best to purchase.?
Hi I'm starting a Photography course at University and I need to purchase a 35mm SLR digital camera.
What is the best one to purchase, brand wise, features etc. I am wanting to spend about $2000.
Thankyou.
There is no such thing as a 35mm digital SLR. 35mm is a film camera. If you need a 35mm film camera then read the following. If you're needing a Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera, skip to the 5th. paragraph.
1) There is no reason to spend $2000. Just find a good condition Pentax K1000 with a 50mm f1.4 or f1.7 lens and maybe a 28mm wide angle lens and a 100mm or 135mm telephoto lens. The K1000 is considered the best student camera ever.
2) Check eBay or keh.com or bhphotovideo.com or adorama.com.
3) Make sure you get the original Owner's Manual with it or buy one or download one.
4) A year or two from now if you decide to buy a DSLR, your Pentax K-mount lenses will still work with the Pentax DSLR line of cameras.
5) If you need a DSLR, then IMO you should consider the Sony A700 or the Pentax K10D. Everyone else will say "Buy a Canon!" or "Buy a Nikon!" Be a free-thinker and look at comparably-priced DSLR cameras.
Both Sony and Pentax have their Image Stabilization systems in the camera body. The Pentax can use every K-mount lens made since 1975 with some restrictions. The Sony can use every Minolta Maxxum AF lens made since 1985 and it can use most every accessory made for the Konica-Minolta D5 & D7 DSLR cameras.
Enjoy shopping for your new camera and good luck with your class.
