what kind of paper would I need to buy to print photos for my digital photography class?

I'm an art major w/ a concentration in Photo. Last semester I took photo I which was solely based on B&W film photography. This semester, my original teacher has taken an unexpected sabbatical, and has been replaced by a teacher who is treating the class as an advanced photo class. We were originally told that the class would be a basic beginning digital class. I have a decent digital SLR, but have no idea what the best paper would be to buy. Any suggestions? Thanks!

First, if you were told this is a basic class and the teacher is giving you advanced work, go see the dept. chairman or dean. Tell him/her of your concerns. If the class is not ready for the information it is time and money wasted on everyone's part.

The papers I found best when starting out: Epson ultra premium glossy. It is a double weight and the glossy finish will help you determine sharpness in your images. Save the matte surface until you've been doing this a while. For matte I prefer Ilford double weight, but you will need a custom profile. Epson matte is not worth using. You might as well use copier paper.
