Help me decide one please!!!?
Hey ppl,
I m a student recently in to photography.. I have Sony's cybershot DSC H55 digital camera. I think my learning curve with this has touched its saturation level. I m planning to move up with a Super zoom level of cameras. I ve come up with three choices of my budget.. Pls suggest me one ... i ve been breaking my head to go with one of these..
1. Fujifilm Finepix HS10
2. Nikon P100
3. Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ100
I mostly snap landscapes, Macros, birds, flowers and casuals. I am more concerned about the quality of image, both in day and night modes. I least bother about the video mode. Can you pls suggest me one..
thanks in advance,
Ramesh
Of the 3 the Panasonic DMC-FZ100 provides a CMOS sensor, lightening fast 11 fps, and Raw capability. It's the higher priced one by far. It has a short lag time/response when you click the shutter. It has the best by far detail-clarity-sharpness. The Nikon does not have good image quality at all. The Fujifilm is highly rated but it was rated before the release of the DMC-FZ100.
The reviews across the spectrum on the Panasonic are mixed, it's worthless to read 3 reviews criticizing IQ (image quality) and 3 reviews applauding it as the best available in it's class or type.
Here's the rule - to gain something you have to give up something. This applies to every camera out there. So every camera has its drawback and its plus side.
The opinions posted on these cameras are utterly useless when it comes to forums or blogs, including this one - "The Nikon is cool" and things like that serve no answer. I read one regarding the Panasonic "The older FZ28 blows the FZ100 out of the water". That is absurd, improbable, and impossible. Since a 300 resolution is about tops for viewing an image on line then comparing results on line is useless unless someone provides same exact light and distance comparisons that are highly magnified.
I personally base my decisions on what noted photographers use and I find these on specific types of places like wildlife, bird, safari, and nature groups. I also find more specific and realistic opinions from England based forums involving photography.
I have been shooting nature and wildlife for well over 30 years. I have owned a Panasonic FZ20 in the past and consider selling it off a mistake to this day. For a P&S it was simply marvelous for flowers. I mostly use manual Nikkor glass on Nikon DSLR's. My wife though does not prefer a DSLR. I bought her a Canon SX20 a few years back, mistake...the fringing was awful and the lag time/delay for shutter response in horrible. Sadly the Canon SX30 is just as slow and produces purple urple galore. I bought her the Panasonic DMC-FZ100 based on exactly what I would prefer. That includes IQ as the main factor.
A complaint is that the FZ100 produces noise and grain at 400 ISO and above. Think about that? If you shoot as you describe then you would primarily shoot at 80 or 100 ISO for what? "The best IQ possible?
I am impressed using the Panasonic "night mode" right of the box or in just P mode.
My opinion is that of the three the FZ100 is the clear cut best and it's why I chose it for her ($450) is steep comparably though. You should rank them 1 FZ100 2 Fujifilm 3 Nikon in this case. Compare them and try them in the store because which ever one you feel confident with in your hands is just as important. One thing most opinions never include is the fact that your comfort and confidence level in a camera will achieve outstanding results - trust me on this because it is important and unless you base everything on specs. Factor that the more you shoot the better your results and if you don't like something for any reason then you'll tend not to use it as much. Practice, practice, practice over ratings, specs, and opinions any day with me.
