Photography Companies

I want a camera manufacturer to sponsor my UK photography website. What's the best way to get them interested?

The website isn't on-line yet but is about landscape photography. I've had interest from other businesses but not from photography companies. Seeing as they stand to benefit a great deal from the exposure my website could offer, how can I get in contact with the 'top brass' within a marketing department?

You need to think about what's in it for them, and then put together a mini-proposal to "sell" the concept to them.

Its very easy to set up a website these days, but making money out of it, and getting people to find it amongst the millions of others can be very tough.

Has your website got a unique selling point that sets it apart from the competition, and how are you going to drive traffic to it?

Its very unlikely any company will commit money to you unless they see the website up and running TOTALLY complete, not one tiny thing out of place. It would need to be of the highest quality if you're looking to work with a camera manufacturer, image is obviously very important to them.

Incomplete sites or websites with text saying "work in progress" or links that don't go anywhere are not good places to have associated with their brand.

Think about your typical "customer" on your planned website, is that a typical customer for the company you plan to ask for sponsorship? If so, maybe that's something you can sell to them.

Once you've got the site finished, and you've put together a short summary of why they should sponsor you, just pick up the phone to the company and say "I got a unique proposal for the marketing manager, please give me their name and contact details". If they wont give you their email address, check which office they work from and post your proposal in with a business like covering letter.

Bearing in mind you're selling to a marketing person, your proposal needs to be really professional. Show them you're done your market research on the type of site your planning. Tell them how you're going to promote it, and make money from it, and what the upside to them is.

If your proposal is good enough, they would hopefully want to meet you face to face, or at least talk on the phone, and then you get your chance to close the deal!
