Tips For Great Digital Photo Prints

You've mastered the art of digital photography and have thousands of digital photos just lying in your 1-terrabyte hard drive. Should you just be content with having your works of art lie in suspended animation forever? It's time you put more elbow grease into your hobby and start seeing your work on print.


Digital photo prints need not only be fillers for your family album or scrapbook; you can enlarge them, frame them, and hang them on your walls; or you can even use them for greeting cards or calendars you can give to friends. There are a lot of things you can do with digital photo prints; all you need is a digital photo printer and a lot of creativity to get started. Here are some easy tips to help you get the best digital photo prints.


1. The best digital prints start with good photos. No matter how great your subject is, if your digital photo is blurred or grainy or doesn't have good lighting, you end up with bad photo prints. Make sure your digital camera is set to the best resolution and employ good photography techniques such as proper lighting and framing, so you have beautiful photos to begin with. Also, always leave room in your digital photos for cropping. Most of the time, the sizes of the photos in your camera aren't the same sizes as regular photo prints (such as 4 x 6, 5 x 7, etc), and it's best to leave room at the sides of your photo to make sure you don't cut any important detail out when it's time for you to print.


2. Make sure you have a good digital photo printer. Laser jet printers may be able to print the best-quality digital photos, but they're also the most expensive. Inkjet printers cost less, and can print decent photos, so it'd be better for the more practical to settle with inkjet printers. If you won't be using your printer for text or if you want to invest more in digital photo printing, then get a dye-sublimation printer, which uses a heat process to transfer images to paper and doesn't use

3. Use the right ink and paper. Use the correct paper and
printer ink
that matches your printer for the best photo printing quality. If you use the wrong type of paper or ink, your digital photos could end up dull and lifeless. It's not however practical to stick with original manufacturers' paper and ink cartridges for most of the less expensive third-party paper and ink cartridges give the same results as their original counterparts. There are also certain types of ink that should be used for certain types of photo paper. Be mindful of the environment and waste, though.


4. Use the correct printer settings. If you haven't opened your printer's manual, now is the right time to do so. There are instructions there on how to change your printer settings. People usually have their printer settings defaulted to "draft" or "normal." You want better print quality then that, so head on to your printer's "preferences" or "properties" menu and set printer quality to "maximum" or "best." There are also options in the printer menu for different types of paper, so click the best option that applies.


Digital photography can be fun, and you can add to the excitement of that hobby by making your own digital photo prints. There's no better way to enjoy the fruits of your labor than by seeing your art come to life on albums or even on your bedroom walls.
