How to do light painting photography?

hi i'm interested in creating images like these:

i have a digital SLR camera and a film SLR camera.
i've seen a few tutorials but it still seems confusing... :

and a film camera which is a pentax p30.

Read up on the painter, Caravaggio. There are some wonderful tutorials on this technique using Photoshop.
